The Church - Sunday 18th Oct [Oct. 10th, 2009|01:08 pm]
[mood |busybusy]

I know I've not updated in ages. And now I am only doing so to spam you all - sorry!

Whammy Bar (in St Kevin's Arcade on K'rd) have started up a new goth night and I am Dj/entertainment herding and, it seems, advertising it. If anyone has time and ability to help out with the graphic design it would be appreciated as I have neither the talent nor the time to make pretty flyers.

Anyway details:

The Church: Whammy Bar Goth Night
Sunday 18th October
9pm - late
FREE entry
Whammy Bar, Saint Kevin's Arcade, 183 K'rd

Morgan (Spiggy) and Richard Griffiths will be the guest Djs and Craig and Nick Freeman are our regulars.

So far the gigs have been really relaxed and fun and a bit nostalgic. They were on Thursdays but with a name like The Church (nothing to do with me) the Sunday option needs to at least be tried!

It looks like the November gig will be on the day of my birthday. I'm not yet sure how I feel about this but as it is important to me to get keep this going and try and get a regular night (i.e. third Sunday of every month or something) I suppose I'll just have to combine the two events.

Suggestions and comments welcome. I'm keen to know if the Thursday or the Sunday is a better option. If we can get a good regular turn out then there may be the option of moving it to a Friday or a Saturday later next year (but I suspect we would also have to do a cover charge - which would go to the bar).

Proper update to come.

Sure. Maybe not the next one - it looks like it will clash with my birthday in which case I'll be organising bands and will only need Nick and Craig. but I'll let you know ASAP.

Have you used DJ decks before?

It isn't hard. The only thing you have to get the hang of is timing to make sure that the songs fade together smoothly - best way to kill a dance-floor or even a good conversation is to have silence between tracks. I find you just need to make sure you know all the tracks you're going to play REALLY well.

I would suggest that we try and get there early so that I can show you what to do and you can have a bit of a play before people arrive. And maybe have a peek over other people's shoulders next weekend too. It is all pretty intuitive though.

Cool, pulling crowds for a sunday night must be tricky though? :-/

The last few have been on a Thursday which is just as bad (worse if it is a wet night) and we've had a pretty big turn out. It isn't a big bar (although they've got a lot of seating which is good) so it doesn't need to be packed to still feel like a good crowd. I think it is better to keep it free - but time will tell.

That reminds me of when I had apocalyptic rain kill my first gig in Hellington, boo, only got better after that though! Sounds cool and yeah free entry sounds like win. I'll be around sometime for it.

Hopefully see you at Hanzel und Gretyl eh, I was worried for a sec. they'd clash next month heh.
